Finland it’s a very modern country. Advanced technologies and telecommunication are the driving power of economy. By the way Finland is also Santa Claus, sauna and success in ski jumping.

What else?

Country

What associations, first of all, raises your country?

Foreigner may say it is coldness, but I think it is extreme weather conditions during year. We may have very hot summer, but also very cold winter with lot of snow.

What are the most important dates during the whole year?

To us most importand dates are Midsummer in end of June and of course Christmas. During those dates Finland is completely stopped.

What are the pros and cons of your country?

People here are friendly and cities are quite small and this means also, that living is easy in many ways. Darkness during winter is something, that one can not completely get used to.

What are the most interesting / the funniest / the most pleasant traditions in your country?

Midsummer may be most interesting and also funnisest event as we do have sunlight almost 24 hous that time, we do not have night and people usually start summer holidays at same time. Let the Party begin…

What will you give the foreigner, to feel the real ‘taste of Finland?

Mainly I think to get real taste of Finland would have something to do with our nature and forests. For example in summer time sports fishing could be nice, also canoe trip or hiking with beautiful guided routes. Wintertime for example to make snow scooter , skiing or skating tour. And there is possibility to see northern lights too!

Work

What is the specific of work in the Finland?

We have had a lot forest industry meaning wood, paper and pulp factories, but times have changed and we are more concentrating to technology.

What are the bestsellers? How does the market look like? What are the most popular branches?

Bestsellers today are electronics including telecommunication, machinery and metalwork, chemie, and fourth is pulp and paper industry. Also finnish de signers are doing good work.

And about plastic industry?

Plastic industry is supporting other brances and therefore we have many plastic companies. When it comes to telecommunication and plastic industry there is almost nothing left as production of mobile phones plastic parts left decade ago, but there is still lot experience left to us.

What products imports and exports Finland?

We produce and export many high tech electronics, a lot machinery like ships, power plants, complete pulp and paper factories and of course a lot pulp and paper. As we do not have own car manufacturers we import for cars and nowdays more and more consumer goods and food.

How does entrepreneurs operate in the market? Are they active, taking part in the fair or organize something themselves?

Entrepreneurs are very active making most of work by visiting customers. And that is hard work, because Finland is land with long distances and slow speedlimits.

What, in your opinion, is the most valuable national trait in the workplace?

Finnish people do not complain working hard.

Happy hours

What are the favorite activities of Finland? How they spend their free time?

Favorite activities are mainly outdoor sports like skiing, skating ,cycling, and hiking. And after that Sauna will re-fresh !

True-born Finn could not live without... ?

Definitely Sauna. We have many degrees Sauna’s and one may start with electric heated Sauna. But last degree is so called smoke Sauna with very special atmosphere – those are very rare as those Sauna’s have risk to burn, because the way they are heated. Also one may have to have patience as it takes least 6 hours to warm it up.

What is the most frequent subject of jokes in the Finland?

We have lot of jokes and usually we make jokes about stupid habits, drinking and neighbour countries, but we really can laugh to ourselves.
