Country

What associations, first of all, are triggered by Poland?

I think first of all, great Poles such as John Paul II or Frederic Chopin but also the “Solidarity” known across the world. We have also our national sport – the soccer – but unfortunately nowadays in that matter there is nothing to be proud of :)

What are the most important dates during the whole year?

In Poland historical dates and anniversaries are something extremely important – one of them is May the 3rd –Constitution Day (Poland had the first world’s democratic constitution). Furthermore combining it with May the 1st which is also a holiday – we have a pretty long weekend :) Easter and Christmas is also a very special time spent with the Family.

What are the pros and cons of your country?

Cons are for example the littered woods and wild garbage dumps. We also cannot be proud of the political disputes connected with a still growing demarcation. Pros? Definitely the natural resources and fast growing economy. In recent years the changes have been really huge. I also admire our diligence and hospitality we are known of all across the world.

What are the most interesting/ the funniest / the most pleasant traditions in your country?

There are two things that come to my mind : “śmigus dyngus” when people are dousing each other with water on the second day of Easter and April Fools filled with pranks.

What will you give the foreigner, to feel the real ‘taste of Poland’?

Polish cuisine is something we can really be proud of so if you want to taste the real Poland you need to try our “bigos” made of cabbage and “żurek” which is a creamy soup. You should also see the beautiful Tatra mountains and visit Cracow, two very special Polish places.

Work

What is the specifics of work in the Poland?

Western countries mostly connect Poland with mass emigration. It was the strongest before the crisis but until now a lot of young people have travelled abroad hoping for better salaries. Because Polish people are known from their diligence those who don’t want to leave their homeland try to o open their own small businesses – as a result this part of market grows very fast.

How does the market look like?
What are the most popular branches?

Poland is one of the worlds leaders as far as copper is in concerned. We are also known in Europe from the household goods production. Other strong industries are: construction, mining and lately also plastics processing.

And about plastics industry?

This is a strong part of the Polish economy. Even at the time of the crisis in Europe this particular branch was growing. Poland is the biggest European producer of goods made from EVA (used for different types of footwear and wellingtons). One of the biggest polyamides producer is Grupa Azoty from Tarnów.

What are imported/exported by Poland?

There are a lot of products In both areas. For example in export these are: copper, coal, food, household goods and services. As far as import is concerned this is mainly:gas, cars, textiles and technologies.

How does entrepreneurs operate in the market? Are they active, taking part in the fair or organize something themselves?

Polish businessman act very dynamically. Actually there are no differences between Polish and West-European businessman. In plastics industry – Plastpol Fairs are the biggest ones in the middle eastern Europe. They have a huge impact on the development of this part of industry.

What, in your opinion, is the most valuable national trait in the workplace?

Our diligence and knowledge are something we can be proud of and these are the most important things for foreign employers. Polish people like to work fast but sometimes it is difficult to connect it with precision.

Happy hours

What are the favorite activities of Poland?
How do they spend their free time?

It is similar to other countries. Activeness such as jogging, skiing and bicycle riding are getting more and more popular. Due to the changes visible in our lifestyle and economical situation a lot of people are able to travel abroad which is a favorite way of spending free time.
